The Beef Nutrition Farm is facing an ergonomic concern when feeding small batches of research diets to cattle. Small batches of feed are currently mixed and dispensed into two plastic 55-gallon “Brute” garbage cans. Each pin of cattle receives a different mixture. With feed, the two containers can weigh anywhere from 50 to 120 pounds (combined). A worker currently drags the containers across the alley and manually lifts and dumps the feed into a trough. This creates a long-term safety concern for workers due to the repeated strain on the body.
Our project hopes to remedy this problem by providing a more ergonomic solution for lifting and distributing feed. By designing and building a prototype which will require far less human labor, we will increase worker safety and longevity while creating a more desirable work experience for each employee.
In the updates tab we will be updating our progress over the coming months. There are currently three independent teams working on different solutions.
Within March the teams are finalizing the 3-D models using a program called SOLIDWORKS. This process gives us the ability to create and render models for parts we design.
Within these drawings we include model and engineering specifications like dimensions, material selection, surface finishes, and weld parameters.
Additional information regarding SOLIDWORKS can be found on their website: https://www.solidworks.com.
The Designs belong to teams OA1, OA2 and OA3 (going top to bottom)
