Cardinal Eats 2022

Cardinal Eats magazine is the only food publication on Iowa State University’s campus. Our publication was founded in 2016 with the mission to share the love of food with students across campus and with people in the Ames community.

We are a small team of 21 members who are dedicated to providing high-quality stories, recipes, photos, and design elements all wrapped up in the one issue that we produce each semester.

This semester, we are publishing our 10th issue, “A Recipe for Survival”. The theme of this issue is focusing on the several different ways that we as humans survive through one of our common necessities: food. Our stories are focusing on a wide range of topics like food insecurity, eating disorders, foraging, beekeeping, diet changes due to health, Indigenous culture, cultural testimonies from our models, an interactive quiz about camping and several others.

Our recipes for this issue are being created with the intention of using ingredients from the wild. Some recipes include a wild blueberry martini, acorn jelly, roasted fish, wild mushroom soup and many more.

There are a lot of moving parts within Cardinal Eats. We have an editorial team, test kitchen team, photography and videography team, advertising and marketing team, design team, fundraising and events team, a treasurer and an Editor-in-Chief. We collaborate with each other during every meeting and we are all very supportive of one another and everyone’s ideas.

In order to continue to be able to create more issues of Cardinal Eats in the future, we need your help. There are a lot of costs that go into creating a food publication. There are grocery bills, printing costs, software needs, photography equipment, props and clothes for modeling shoots, hosting our release party event, and many others. We have done fundraisers through Coldstone, and we are doing a bake sale on campus, but we believe FundISU is the best way to reach people who are interested in supporting student journalism.

We are a small but mighty team. Without your help, we will not be able to connect with as many students and community members as we would like to. We believe this publication is important and that we deserve our space on campus. Help us reach our goals of creating more issues and improving Cardinal Eats by donating to us through FundISU. Thank you so much!
