Regional Conference

The Iowa State Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) will participate virtually on April 16th - 18th for the 2021 MidAmerica Regional Student Conference. This is a great opportunity for students to represent Iowa State in various competitions and professional opportunities.

This is a great opportunity to represent Iowa State and includes many professional development seminars and networking opportunities. Fourteen students from our chapter will be attending the conference for professional development, research presentations, and the Chem-E-Car Competition. Your generosity helps make this trip more affordable for everyone and is much appreciated. Thank you!

Chem-E-Car Team:

We currently have two teams preparing for the upcoming regional conference in April. The teams are experimenting with air batteries this year to power their cars, as well as incorporating some new and exciting ideas for their stopping mechanisms. Iowa State has sent a team to the national conference 6 years in a row!

This is thanks to our excellent traditions and outstanding students willing to put in the hard work to be successful. Your support will help us send the cars and teams to the regional conference and purchase materials to build the cars. Thank you for your generosity.

Teams from last semester at the 2020 regional conference. Pictured here is Nine-Tails with Attitude in the gold lab coats and Sweeney Dratini in the red lab coats. This competition season, we are looking to extend the rich history of naming cars after Pokemon. This tradition began in 2014 with the Squirtle Squad and has continued since with some very creative names. Last semester we had Nine-Tails with Attitude and The Sweeney Dratini. Last semester was very busy with a makeup regional conference and the annual national competition. Our students worked very hard to run their cars at the regional competition successfully, and Nine-Tails with Attitude advanced to nationals. Looking forward, we hope to send two more cars to the regional competition in April!

 Research:

Students from Iowa State will be attending to present research about the work they do at school. Presenting research is both a competition and a great opportunity for students to build valuable skills to help them in their careers.

 Professional Development:

Students will be attending this conference as well to advance their careers. AIChE has a wide variety of seminars that will educate students on how to be better engineers. The professional development opportunities are endless.
