The first ISU 4U Promise Scholars cohort of thirteen students is headed to Iowa State in fall of 2018. Laptops are essential for their academic success. The ISU 4U Promise program is a new college access and affordability initiative serving students and families from the racially and ethnically diverse King and Moulton elementary schools in Des Moines, Iowa. Students who complete fifth grade at these schools and remain within the Des Moines Public School district through graduation are eligible for tuition awards to Iowa State University.
In its five years of development, the ISU 4U Promise has effectively coordinated activity between a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. These include the ISU College of Human Sciences, the Extension and Outreach, Financial Aid, and Student Affairs units, Des Moines Public Schools, and the Community Alliance. These collaborations have paved the pathway to ISU for this first cohort of ISU 4U Promise Scholars. Having a laptop is a next step towards a successful undergraduate experience.
The average laptop price at the ISU Bookstore is approximately $1,500. This is a significant barrier for students with limited financial means. Your investment will assist in the purchase of a laptop and add to the critical resources needed to launch the ISU 4U Promise Scholar adventure at Iowa State University.
The suggested donation levels reflect principles upon which the ISU 4U Promise was founded. These were developed out of conversations with a community that, with your gift to the ISU 4U Promise 2018 fund, you are now a part of. Thank you for your support!
