Each year, The Fashion Show hosts the Lora and Russ Talbot ISU Fashion Show Merchandising Scholarship. For the case study, we partner with a company that is looking for a solution to one of their internal problems. Students in the AMD program are presented with the company's problem and their goal is to come up with a solution for the company. We are excited to announce our 2021 Merchandise Case Study is presented and judged by Jaz It Up, a local clothing boutique located in Washington, IA.

The winner will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship and will be announced at our event, Fashion’s Night Out, Thursday, April 15th at the Student Innovation Center.

Merchandise Sales

March 19, 2021

Our merchandise is live and available to purchase HERE! The Fashion Show merchandise sales includes our 2021 Collection, 2020 Collection and Vintage Collection. This year, we are working with Innovate 1858 to sell our merchandise on an online platform. You can order the items online, have them shipped to you or pick them up at the campus store. Accessories such as stickers, face masks, baseball hats, tote bags, and pins will be sold in the physical store and online platform. TFS apparel will be available in store during our Fashion Week, April 12-16th.

Innovate 1858 is a student operated retail store that is overseen by the Apparel, Event, and Hospitality Management Department in the Student Innovation Center. The store is developed and operated by Iowa State’s Apparel Merchandising and Design students and faculty. The store gives students the experience of work hands-on in a retail environment.

We are thrilled to partner with Innovate 1858 for our merchandise sales this year! TFS merchandise is available to purchase on the Innovate 1858 website now until April 30, 2021.

2021 Guest Designers

March 18, 2021

We are thrilled to announce that three of our four Guest Judges are doubling as our Guest Designers for the Fashion Show 2021! Night Dive Swim, Wanderlust, and Gretchen Bohling Designs are all Iowa native fashion companies that we are excited to showcase in our runway shows. The pandemic has hit local small businesses the most during this past year and we want to recognize their hard work and dedication during these hardships.

In 2016 Gretchen launched her business, which is a fashion brand promoting ethical and sustainable design. At GBD she offers a private label collection of handmade to order garments, one-of-a-kind bespoke custom garments for clients hoping to have a truly unique piece, custom tailoring services for men and women ranging from basic alterations and mending to repurposing garments in a new way, and teaching private sewing lessons at her studio in downtown Des Moines. GBD provides the highest quality sustainably handmade apparel for their clients and to educate them on how to maintain an ethical wardrobe through the use of their many services that promote and embody the slow fashion movement. Gretchen is proud to create minimal fabric waste while providing a product of the highest quality in the fashion industry. Each garment is handmade with care and expert attention to detail.

In 2018, Heather Brown launched her own brand, NIGHT DIVE SWIM, with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity. “NIGHT DIVE SWIM showcases only unretouched photography, a range of models with different body types and shapes across all platforms, has extended sizing, uses biodegradable packaging for each piece and shipping, is ethically made, and all swimwear is created in regenerated nylon and recycled fibers from discarded fishing nets and nylon waste.” Heather’s brand has been sold at Aerie for the last two years and continues to grow.

Wanderlust has been owned and operated by Jennifer Coughenour for 6 years; 2021 will look much different than in the past after having to close her doors beginning of the year to help reduce overhead expenses. Jennifer still continues her dream with providing pop ups, wardrobe styling appointments and marketing services. Her passion and entrepreneurial drive continuously pushes herself along with her business to become the best it can be. People are the inspiration for everything she does. Without you, she wouldn't be able to do what she loves everyday. Giving back and spreading joy to others is what motivates her to never give up.

Thank You!

March 17, 2021

Thank you to everyone who has donated to The Fashion Show 2021! We are excited to announce our final fundraising amount, including check and cash donations, totaling $34,005! We greatly surpassed our initial goal of $30,000 and are thrilled to say this is a record breaking fundraising year for The Fashion Show. Each year, we are grateful for the overwhelming support from our donors. The Fashion Show would not be possible without your contributions! Now it's time to receive your incentives for donating, so be on the lookout for an email regarding specific incentive information!

COVID-19 Updates

March 03, 2021

This year’s planning process for The Fashion Show is quite different from the past 38 years. Our directors, committee members, and models have been working very hard to plan this year’s show while following the CDC guidelines and the Cyclones Care protocols. We have been able to have all TFS students attend in-person classes on Wednesday nights, with a Zoom option available, as well as our models practicing in-person every other Sunday night.

While trying to plan our activities throughout the semester, it has been a bit challenging. We have to consider social distancing, rooms with half capacity, virtual events, and much more that lies within the CDC guidelines. This year’s events have already started to look very unique while we are working with these restrictions. We are working to make the most of these restrictions with virtual sign ups, recorded event attendance, and virtual Zoom calls for those who cannot attend the events in-person. These outlets help us ensure we are following COVID-19 protocols to prioritize health and safety.

This year’s runway show will be held at Reiman Gardens on Friday, Aprith 16th and Saturday, April 17th at 7 p.m. This gives us the ability to hold an outdoor runway show while following CDC guidelines to keep everyone safe. Unfortunately, we will not be selling tickets to the public this year due to the limited number of attendees we can accommodate at our new venue. Our Set Design directors have been working diligently to create the best seating arrangements for our audience in order to keep everyone socially distanced.

We will be distributing minimal seats to our directors, committee members, designers, and models in order to have friends and family there to watch in person. We will host watch parties throughout campus for family and friends to dress up and enjoy the show together in a COVID-19 safe way. TFS students will be given wristbands for their friends and family to attend the watch parties.

For those who are not able to attend our in-person show or watch parties, our livestream will be available to everyone on our Facebook page and our official ISU website. Thank you for your understanding & support while we plan The Fashion Show 2021.

TFS 2021 Philanthropy

February 24, 2021

Our Philanthropy directors (Emily DeDonker, Natalie Rock, and Clarissa Hoffman) have been working to secure and plan our three philanthropy events for The Fashion Show 2021. We are happy to continue our past relationships with Hughats and excited to start a new relationship with The SHOP.

This year The Fashion Show is excited to be partnering with Hughats again! Hughats is a non-profit organization recently created by Kris Abel-Helwig, a breast cancer survivor, who had the dream of making hats to comfort those going through chemotherapy treatments. Kris not only wants to help chemotherapy patients, but she also wants to spread joy to Alzheimer’s & dementia patients, in loving memory of her late mother. Volunteers for Hughats create hats, or 'hugs,' for children and adults in need of some warming up. Our team is hoping to send over 100 hats to children cancer patients, nursing home patients, and those in hospice care. Sign up to help us on February 27th 10-3pm in the South Ballroom at Iowa State’s Memorial Union to make some Hughats!

We are proud to be partnering with Dress for Success Des Moines for the fourth year. Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that provides programs to help local women acquire jobs, retain their positions, and succeed in the mainstream workplace.  Their mission is “to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” This year we will be creating a thrifting event in order to support dress for success while staying within the organization’s COVID-19 guidelines. We will be collecting donations from students, faculty, staff and the Ames community to help make this event a success. The event will be held Friday, March 26th from 10AM-3PM in the Pioneer Room in the Memorial Union.

Along with Dress for Success, they are beginning a new partnership with The SHOP (Students Helping Our Peers). This is the local food pantry found on Iowa State’s campus that helps ensure food security with all ISU students and staff. Our Philanthropy team will be in partnership with our Fashion Week team to make this food drive possible.

The Philanthropy committee will be collaborating with several other Fashion Show events to collect clothes and accessories throughout the spring semester. If you have any items you would like to donate or have questions about the program, please contact fs.philanthropy@iastate.edu.

24 Hour Push Day Update

February 19, 2021

We'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated during our 24 hour push! We exceeded our goal of $2,400, and we could not have done that without you. These donations will help cover our expenses to plan and purchase items for our Fashion Week events during the week of show. Once again, thank you for helping us during our push day. We can't wait to see how much we can raise within the next two weeks!

24 Hour Push Day!

February 17, 2021

Hello FundISU Donors! We are 16 days out from the end of our campaign and have set a goal to raise $2,400 in the next 24 hours starting at 7pm today until 7pm tomorrow! Support from donors like you is the reason we are able to produce a fashion show on the scale that we have here at Iowa State. FundISU donations account for one-third of our production costs! With that being said the $2,400 we are working to raise today could pay for hair and makeup for our 50+ models, set materials needed at Reiman Gardens, and assist our promotional events the week of show.

A

There are many more aspects of our show that the FundISU campaign supports and makes possible. We are so grateful for our donors like you! Thanks for your continuous support of our program. We can’t wait to see how much we can fundraise in the next 24 hours!

Theme + Fundraising Updates

February 16, 2021

We are so excited to see the momentum our crowdfunding campaign has gained in a few weeks. From all of us at The Fashion Show, we would like to extend a huge "Thank You!" to all of our donors so far! This week we’re sharing our progress on our TFS 2021 theme and our fundraising progress.

We are so excited to present the theme for the 2021 show: Metamorphosis. Created through student collaboration this theme lets us reflect on the unpredictable year 2020 brought us while focusing on the future of change in a positive light. Metamorphosis honors everyone’s hard work and dedication in The Fashion Show from 2020 to 2021. The Fashion Show 2021: Metamorphosis aims to represent our numerous student designers and their collections in a way that values every design that crosses the runway. Multiple Director teams collaborated to take Metamorphosis from an initial mood board into a specific vision for our theme that will be represented in all TFS materials. From marketing materials to visual merchandising displays to set creation, Metamorphosis is represented throughout it all. Thanks to our Art Directors (Matthew Timmer and Grace Jorgensen), alongside our Gallery and Display Directors (Samantha Morgan and Hannah Iverson-Jones) and our Set Directors (Jacob Gasper, Hannah Hogan, Madelyn Uhl, and Emily Szabo) for helping establish a clear vision for The Fashion Show 2021: Metamorphosis.

Now some Fundraising news! For FundISU, we have surpassed over 50% of our fundraising goal within two weeks! We are completely blown away and so excited for how this support will allow The Fashion Show to continue to grow as a student organization and an event. We are looking forward to seeing where the following 17 days of our FundISU campaign take us!

The Fashion Show 2021 is in production!

Last year we surpassed our fundraising goal, raising a grand total of $34,005! Thank you for your generous donations that make each year the best possible production.

A

Last night was the start of our fundraising campaign for 2021! Our FundISU campaign through the Iowa State Foundation will be live for 30-days, ending on March 5th. We are excited for the challenge of raising $30,000 in this short time frame!
