Studio Andino 2017 Workshop!

January 15, 2017

Studio Andino 2017 has launched! We are a wonderful group of students from all over the world, including a Peruvian in ISU's BArch. program!  On January 24th José Cepero--a representative from our partners in Lima, Intuy Lab--will arrive in Ames for a Community Engagement Workshop and Design/Build Project Charrette. If you are interested and able to join us on campus during this week, please contact Clare Cardinal-Pett (ccardp@iastate.edu) for details. There will be a variety of events, including informal social gatherings, all of which you are more than welcome to attend and participate in.

Thanks again for making this work possible! We will post photographs of our new team on Facebook starting next week!

Studio Andino 2017 thanks everyone who contributed to our project fund. We are excited to begin planning for the work in Chorrillos next semester. Please visit us on our Facebook page for news and updates! Visit the studio in Ames in the Spring--and consider a trip to Peru in March to see the work first hand!

Final Countdown!

October 18, 2016

The campaign is in its final week. With just seven days to go, we are $2000 short of our goal. Please share the FundISU link with a friend who might be interested and able to help put us over the top!

Thank you, Studio Andino Alumni/ae!

October 13, 2016

With just 12 days left in our campaign, it is wonderful to see so many Studio Andino alumni/ae jumping on board to help fund the 2017 projects. You can see many of them in this scrapbook of group photos from 2012-2016. They are all recent ISU graduates. Some are now in graduate school, some are emerging design professionals around the world. Some are making plans for a reunion in Peru, March 2017!

Halfway!

October 10, 2016

Many thanks to our recent donors. The campaign has crossed the halfway point on the timeline but we are lagging just a bit behind the halfway mark on our total contributions. Please spread the word in your circle of friends. Help us fund the 2017 studio design-build work!  One of our partners is the NGO Alto Peru Surf. Here's a link to their website, where you can see some of the good work they do: http://www.altoperu.org/alto-peru/acerca-de-nosotros/

Steady progress!

October 06, 2016

Two weeks into the campaign and we are making steady progress towards our project goal. We are grateful to our early donors, many of whom contributed the the 2016 effort. While there is still a big gap between our current total and the final goal, there is time to get the word out and make new friends. Spread the word!

The studio takes time off from its hard work in LIma for a trip to Cuzco, the Urubamba Valley, and Cuzco. We see the famous sights but we also experience aspects of everyday life in the Andean region that tourists rarely encounter. This scrapbook of images from our high altitude adventures over the years offers a glimpse of one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Thanks everyone! ¡Muchas gracias a todos!

September 28, 2016

The campaign is off to a great start, thanks to some generous people who contributed during the first few days. We are very grateful. Check out the new slideshow at our YouTube site--it is a scrapbook of images from the past two years of work at the artisanal fishing wharf in Chorrillos. Your gifts will help fund our new projects there in 2017!

$10

WILLING NEIGHBORS

At our jobsites we rely on members of the local community to help out in various ways. Our projects provide extra income for these families, many of whom live on less than $10 a day. Your small donation here goes far.

$20

TAXI DRIVERS

Donations of $20 will help support our daily transportation costs. We pay local drivers for short errands near our work sites as well as trips to and from our hotel in Miraflores.

$50

LOCAL SHOPPERS

We buy food, water, tools and hardware from shops in the neighborhoods where we work. The prices are generally very low and the opportunity to interact with local people invaluable.

$100

BUILDING MATERIAL PROVIDERS

Building materials are another large component of the project budget. We try to spend our money in the neighborhoods where we work, which means many small loads of things like paint, lumber, and bamboo--that rarely cost more than $100--are delivered in a small car or taxi.

$250

JOBSITE ASSISTANTS

Each year we provide small stipends to our Peruvian partners and local craftsmen to help manage the project site preparation, offer expertise, or coordinate the construction process. Without these “boots on the ground” we would not be able to accomplish so much in such a short period of time.

$500

FISHERS' FRIENDS

Studio Andino 2016 will be working at two sites in the Chorrillos municipality, one in the Alto Peru neighborhood and one at the fishing wharf. A donation of $500 will help fund our more ambitious design-build projects such as the reclamation and repurposing beached wooden boats for both sites. $500 buys one boat.

$1,000

WORKSHOP PATRONS

Each year the Studio hosts one or more of our Peruvian collaborators at the beginning of the semester. This year we plan to bring 2 or 3 INTUY Lab professionals to Ames for a 3-day workshop that addresses interdisciplinary, cross-cultural participatory design. This workshop will be open to the public and will include contributions from several other College of Design faculty and our partners in Anthropology. A $1000 gift will help support this event.
