TFS Insider

March 24, 2022

For The Fashion Show 2022, we have brought back our TFS Insider Podcast, expanding “Beyond TFS.” The podcast is hosted by our Public Relations and Marketing Directors, Jackie Underhill and Irma Guzman, and PR committee members. Last year TFS Insider focused on showing the ins and outs of TFS behind the scenes and the different roles that embody each committee in the fashion show. This year we are expanding beyond this and taking it to outside sources connecting with past alumni professionals and touching base on their topics affecting the fashion industry. This year we also got the opportunity to expand our podcast to Youtube, so please head over to our Youtube channel to watch our podcast, like and subscribe to our channel and tune in every other Wednesday for the latest episode.

TFS Insider is also available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, and Anchor.

Philanthropy

March 09, 2022

Philanthropy directors (Brindy Arrendondo, Alaina Porter, and Dorothy Vernon) have been working to secure and plan our three philanthropy events for The Fashion Show 2022. We are happy to continue our past relationships with Hughats and Dress For Success, and excited to start a new relationship with The Pollinator Partnership.

This year, The Fashion Show is excited to be partnering with Hughats again! Hughats is a non-profit organization created by Kris Abel-Helwig, a breast cancer survivor, who had the dream of making hats to comfort those going through chemotherapy treatments. Kris not only wants to help chemotherapy patients, but she also wants to spread joy to Alzheimer’s & dementia patients, in loving memory of her late mother. Volunteers for Hughats create hats, or 'hugs,' for children and adults in need of some warming up. The event this year was a great success, as we were able to donate 150+ hats to local children’s hospitals and cancer centers.

We are proud to be partnering with Dress for Success Des Moines for the fifth year. Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that provides programs to help local women acquire jobs, retain their positions, and succeed in the mainstream workplace. Their mission is “to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Our event this year will feature a makeshift thrift store with all proceeds going to Dress For Success. We are in the process of collecting donations from students, faculty, staff, and the Ames community to help make this event a success. The event will be held Monday, March 28th from 12 PM - 5 PM in the Cardinal Room in the Memorial Union.

Along with Dress for Success, we are beginning a new partnership with The Pollinator Partnership. The Pollinator Partnership has a mission to promote the health of pollinators through conservation, education, and research. Pollinators such as bees, birds, bats, and butterflies are responsible for sustaining our ecosystems and producing natural resources. The Fashion Show wanted to support an organization that reflects our value of sustainability. The Fashion Show purchased seed packets from The Pollinator Partnership, in which all proceeds go right back into the organization. The Philanthropy Committee is partnering up with the Fashion Week committee to put on a seed planting and pot decorating event. This will occur on Thursday, April 7th, tentatively at the Student Innovation Center from 3 PM - 6 PM.

If you have any items you would like to donate or have questions about the program, please contact fs.philanthropy@iastate.edu.

24 Hour Push Update

February 11, 2022

We'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated during our 24 hour push! We exceeded our goal of $2,400, and we could not have done that without you. These donations will help cover expenses for our set design, hair and makeup, fashion week events, and so much more.  Once again, thank you for helping us during our push day. We can't wait to see how much we can raise within the next two weeks!

FundISU 24 Hour Push Day

February 09, 2022

Hello, FundISU Donors! We are 16 days away from the end of our 2022 FundISU Campaign. With half of our campaign completed, we have set a goal to raise $2,400 in the next 24 hours beginning at 7 PM tonight until 7 PM tomorrow. Support from donors like you is the reason we are able to plan and produce a show on the scale The Fashion Show at Iowa State is known for. FundISU donations account for one-third of our production costs. With that being said, the $2,400 we have the goal of raising in the next 24-hours could help pay for hair and makeup for our 70+ models, set materials, and assist our promotional events the week of the show.

There are a number of aspects of our show that the FundISU Campaign supports and helps to make possible. We are so grateful for the support donors just like you provide to our organization. Thank you for your continuous support of our program.

Theme Update

February 07, 2022

We are thrilled to see the support our crowdfunding campaign has gained over the past week and a half! We are currently 40% of the way to our goal and we want to extend a ‘Thank You!’ to everyone who has donated so far. The Fashion Show team is thankful for all of your support and is excited to see how the support continues in these upcoming weeks of the campaign.

We are delighted to share the theme for The Fashion Show 2022: Resurgence. Resurgence is defined as, “a rising again into life, activity, or prominence.” This theme was developed through student creation and collaboration. Resurgence allows us to reflect on the challenging past two years while looking forward to the growth and revival of The Fashion Show. This year we will be celebrating the production’s 40th anniversary. We are thrilled to enter this new decade of The Fashion Show with a theme that represents the tenacity, strength, and energy that encapsulates our organization. Multiple director teams united to develop Resurgence from its initial mood board concept into a focused vision that will be represented throughout all of The Fashion Show 2022’s materials and content. The TFS team is excited to embody this theme and put on a production to inspire the next decade of the organization.

Below is an image of the winning mood board that inspired this year’s theme. This mood board was created by one of our Art Directors, Grace Jorgensen.

2022 Guest Designer

February 04, 2022

After the first week and a half of our FundISU campaign, we would like to thank all of our donors for contributing to The Fashion Show 2022!  We appreciate your continued support and are excited to meet our goal of $30,000 in the next three weeks!

As part of The Fashion Show 2022, we are honored to announce that lifestyle retailer, Urban Outfitters will be serving as our Guest Designer for this years show! Founded in 1970, the company is dedicated to inspiring its customers through a culmination of women’s and men’s apparel, footwear, beauty and wellness products, accessories, and houseware. Their products seek to provide an eye towards creativity and cultural understanding connecting creative individuals and communities around the world. Urban Outfitters headquarters is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and currently operates over 200 stores throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Representatives from the Urban Outfitters team will present a series of looks during our runway show and speak to students about their company culture and supply chain. Partnering with such a unique company offers the opportunity to connect with the entire Iowa State student body and the reaction so far has been inspiring. Many of the committees are already working to incorporate the energy that Urban Outfitters creates into events and marketing ventures surrounding The Fashion Show. Without a doubt, we are beyond excited to showcase Urban Outfitters on our runway for The Fashion Show 2022!
