Cardinal Eats magazine is the only food publication on Iowa State University’s campus. Our publication was founded in 2016 with the mission to share the love of food with students across campus and with people in the Ames community.
We are a small team of 21 members who are dedicated to providing high-quality stories, recipes, photos, and design elements all wrapped up in the one issue that we produce each semester. This semester, we are publishing our 11th issue, “Tea."
Issue 11
11 is a special number. It signifies a destiny for greatness, creativity and intuition. It only seems fitting for Cardinal Eats Issue 11 to center a master of all mealtimes, transcendental of physical and socially constructed borders: tea.
Across the globe and throughout history, tea played an essential but quiet role in food culture. From royal ceremonies to healing rituals to small gestures of love and comfort, tea is always present, connecting us in ways we can’t see unless we look a little closer.
This is what we’re doing with Issue 11: taking a closer look to appreciate tea and all of its presence because it appreciates us and all of ours. So, welcome to the tea party. Cardinal Eats is so honored to host you.
Team
There are a lot of moving parts within Cardinal Eats. We have an editorial team, test kitchen team, photography and videography team, advertising and marketing team, design team, a treasurer and two Editors-in-Chief. We collaborate with each other during every meeting and we are all very supportive of one another and everyone’s ideas.
In order to continue to be able to create more issues of Cardinal Eats in the future, we need your help. There are a lot of costs that go into creating a food publication. There are grocery bills, printing costs, software needs, photography equipment, props and clothes for modeling shoots, hosting our release party event, and many others. We have done fundraisers through Blaze Pizza and Coldstone, and campaigned for Student Government funding, but we believe FundISU is the best way to reach people who are interested in supporting student journalism.
We are a small but mighty team. Our members have gone on to work in the Dotdash Meredith Apprenticeship Program and many more competitive professional opportunities. Without your help, we will not be able to continue providing this valuable experience for our members and community. Our publication is important and we make campus a better, more thoughtful and opportunistic space. Help us reach our goals of creating more issues and improving Cardinal Eats by donating to us through FundISU. Thank you so much!
