The College of Design Office Multicultural Student Success has a established a new FundISU campaign to raise money for the Uplift Fund.
The Uplift Fund was established to provide professional development support for College of Design students as they advance through their degree programs and seek opportunities to participate in conferences, exhibitions, design competitions, internships and other professional development experiences. Financial barriers can make it difficult for students to take advantage of these opportunities, especially multicultural students who may already be marginalized within educational institutions.
The Uplift Fund will help us uplift the work and voices of multicultural students in our art, design and planning majors. As we work to make design education more accessible to everyone through the Design Closet, we aim to make the fields of art, design and planning more accessible by connecting our students with opportunities in their desired professions. With your support, we can Uplift our students and make a meaningful impact on the art, design and planning professions. Please consider donating to the Uplift Fund!
Sometimes the difference between being able to fully take advantage of an opportunity is a couple extra dollars for a meal, taxi, or printing some business cards. Donations at this amount help us take care of the small odds and ends students experience at conferences or an internship. Thanks for making a difference.
We have amazingly talented students here at the College of Design who are thinking deeply and critically about the way design infuences how we experience the world. There are so many opportunities out there for students to get connected to their field but sometimes it is hard to find and makes sense of what is out there. An Advisor is someone who can help you filter through everything. They know what is out there and can help refine your search , tailoring it to your skills and interests. Donations at this level help provide students with a chance to get out there and show the world what they can do. Thanks for being an advisor!
In your professional network it also important to have a few people who you can build a deep and meaningful relationship with. They are likely content experts like an advisor and they also specialize in wanting to support you. These individuals caninvest a little more time, energy, and social capital to help you navigate your unique interests. Donations at this level help us support students as they specialize in their interests. Thank you for being a mentor!
We currently award a maximum of $250 per student within an academic year for professional development opportunities. This can subsidize hotel fees, travel, and registration for opportunities. It is important that we have relationships with people who are able to sponsor us in our professional networks. These individuals are able to provide, advocate and offer resources on our behalf. Donations at this level directly increase the number of people we have the capacity to serve. Thank you for being a sponsor!
Our goal is always to meet the current needs of students and plan for the future. We believe that in order to uplift the voices and skills of multicultural art, design, and art professionals it will require a change in access and support. More students are being encouraged to explore careers in art, design, and planning because of the great work of the community here at the Iowa State College of Design. We also want to be prepared to support potential grad students who are exploring the College of Design and are excited to be a Cyclone one day. Donations at this level help us in our efforts to create a leagacy of change!
