Hello, FundISU donors!
We wanted to express how thankful we are for your continuous support of The Fashion Show. Last year, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised $36,054! Thank you for your generous donations that help to make each show the best production possible.
On Wednesday, January 24, we launched our 2024 fundraising campaign! The FundISU campaign through the Iowa State Foundation will be live for 30 days, ending on February 23 at 7 PM CST. We are excited about the challenge of raising $35,000 in 30 days. https://fundisu.foundation.iastate.edu/TFS2024
Last week, our committee members set personal goals for fundraising and class engagement that they want to reach during the campaign. They each are pushed to reach their goals with class incentives, including a lunch with this year’s guest designer (yet to be announced)!

Only 9 days until The Fashion Show 2023, and we hope you are getting as excited as we are!
Fashion Week is about to kick off with lots of events happening on campus! Our various director teams and their committee members have been working hard to plan these events leading up to the shows. With that, we wanted to share with you the Fashion Week itinerary to keep you in the loop with what's happening on campus next week.

Registration is now open for the annual Behind the Scenes Day, which will take place on April 14th, 2023. Behind the Scenes Day is designed for prospective students to learn all about Iowa State University’s Apparel Merchandising and Design program. During these days, students will participate in workshops, hear from students about their college experiences, and learn from faculty.

With only 26 days until The Fashion Show 2023, our Alumni Directors (Bethany Schleisman, Kalista Lamm, and Lindsey Skaaland) are getting ready to welcome a panel of industry professionals who will serve as our Guest Judges. Next weekend, these four Guest Judges will evaluate all student entries for The Fashion Show 2023 and award over $10,000 in scholarships!
2023 Guest Judges
CASSANDRA DITTMER
Cassandra Dittmer accomplished her Bachelor of Science in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design from Iowa State University in 2013. During her time at Iowa State, she obtained two different internships and was a part of TREND Magazine and The Fashion Show. In January 2022, Cassandra founded her very own sustainable clothing brand, CD Studio – which encourages a capsule wardrobe and ethical consumption. On top of owning her own clothing brand, Cassandra is also a personal stylist.
CHARITY ARMSTEAD
Charity Armstead earned her Ph.D. from Iowa State in December of 2018, with her dissertation on retro home sewers. While working on her Ph.D., she held a position as an instructor and fashion archive manager at Lipscomb University before accepting a job as a Fashion Merchandising Program Director at Brenau University. Today, she is an Associate Professor and the Director of Fashion Programs at Brenau University, where she oversees both Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design programs.
CHELSEY TWEDT
Chelsey Twedt received her Bachelor of Science in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design with an emphasis in Design in 2012 from Iowa State University. Chelsey was drawn to technical design as they are essential in 3D development, works very closely with vendors and factories, and helps bring every style to life. Post-grad, she worked at Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, and Gilly Hicks. Now Chelsey is the Senior Manager of Technical Design for Old Navy.
KATRINA PEDRICK
Katrina Pedrick received her Bachelor of Science in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design with an emphasis on Design and an Entrepreneurship minor in the spring of 2018 from Iowa State University. Upon graduation, she went on to work for Macy’s, until coming to her current occupation now as an Associate Designer at Aerie. Katrina leads the sleepwear category at Aerie through each step of the design process: trend research, sketching, creating tech packs, selecting color runs and line assortments with merchants, fitting the styles, and finally, approving them for production.
Hi donors! We are very excited to release the 2023 Fashion Show merchandise! The Outreach Producers and Art committee have been working hard to put together the perfect designs for this year's theme while following current trends.
Last week, Music and Tech, Modeling and Photography committees came together to get content of the new merchandise for upcoming sales. 2023 merchandise can be purchased at pop-up events, Innovate 1858, or at the show on April 15th.

The events of The Fashion Show are underway! This past Thursday, March 2nd, our Special Events team organized a new event for the organization — A launch party! This was a fun event to kick off The Fashion Show festivities and celebrate our guest designer, Steve Madden. The night was filled with a themed photo booth opportunity, popcorn, mocktails, and trivia about The Fashion Show's history and Steve Madden. Our Fundraising team also sold some of The Fashion Show's past merchandise in preparation for unveiling the 2023 merch this week!
Pictured below are members of our Special Events team. We are so thankful for all of their hard work in putting together this event. They will also be organizing Fashion's Night Out during Fashion Week.
On Monday we hosted our first philanthropy event of the semester, HugHats! HugHats is one of our favorite philanthropy events so, we were super excited to continue the legacy of Hughats. Hughats is a local non-profit organization created by Kris Abel-Helwig, a breast cancer survivor, who had the dream of making hats to comfort those going through chemotherapy treatments. Kris has since retired from the organization that initially started as a 5-year plan, but, through the leadership of our philanthropy directors, we carried on the event for the 2023 show. Hughats not only helps chemotherapy patients, but also spreads joy to Alzheimer’s & dementia patients.
The Philanthropy directors Rebecca Parker, Dorthy Vernon and Madison Halliday, executed an amazing event where volunteers for Hughats created hats, or 'hugs,' for children and adults in need of some warming up. At the event, students crafted fleece hats using scrap fabric and craft glue for fun designs. The event was a great success, and we were able to donate 100+ hats to local children’s hospitals and cancer centers.
Our philanthropy directors have 2 more philanthropy events in store for the weeks leading up to the Fashion Show. They plan to continue our partnership with Dress for Success and are currently planning sustainability events for students to learn more about sustainability in fashion.

Hello FundISU donors!
The Fashion Show's 2023 Campaign officially closed this past Friday, and we are beyond thankful for all of the support that has been reflected through the campaign. With your help, we were able to raise $35,804 — beating the record by nearly $1,800 and exceeding our goal by almost 20%!! We will continue to post updates regarding the show and those involved through here leading up to the show. For those receiving donor perks, keep an eye on your email within the coming weeks for more information on how to claim those! Once again, thank you from the entire TFS team — we hope to see you at The Suite Escape 2023 featuring Steve Madden!

Our campaign is not even complete yet and we have already surpassed our goal of $30,000! In addition to reaching our goal, this is the most money we have raised for The Fashion Show in history passing our previous record of $34,005! This is a huge accomplishment for The Fashion Show and wouldn't be able to do it without all of your help!
We are just two days away from the end of our FundISU campaign, and we are SO thankful for all of the donations given so far. We will continue to fundraise the next two days and officially close the campaign February 24th at 5 PM CST!!

We are honored to announce that Steve Madden is our guest designer for the 2023 Fashion Show! Founded in 1990 from a factory in Queens, NY, Steve Madden has changed the shoe industry. Steve's understanding of trends has pushed his designs to the forefront of fashion. The brand has since grown to include apparel, footwear, handbags, and accessories and is sold in over 80 countries worldwide.
Representatives and Iowa State alumni from the Steve Madden team will present looks during the runway show and speak to students about Steve Madden and footwear innovation. Partnering with such an influential company offers the opportunity to reach a new audience on campus and connect with the entire Iowa State population. Now that we have announced the guest designer, committees are working to incorporate the Steve Madden image into other events and marketing for The Fashion Show.

Thank you again for all of your support for The Fashion Show 2023! We know everyone is anxious to get their tickets for the show, so we wanted to send out a little reminder. Pre-sale tickets go on sale March 6th and the public ticket sale starts March 13th!
If you donate $100, you get access to pre-sale tickets and can choose your ideal seating for the show before the general public. This is one of our favorite incentives since we want everyone who has supported our project to be able to claim their seats. Tickets can be purchased at the Iowa State Center Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

We more than DOUBLED our goal of $2,400 in 24 hours and raised $5,800, and we could not have done that without you. These donations will help cover expenses for our set design, hair and makeup, fashion week events, transporting our guest judges and guest designer, and so much more. Hello, FundISU Donors! We have 16 days left in our 2023 FundISU campaign and that means that today is Push Day! Today we set a goal to raise $2,400 in the next 24 hours, ending at 7 PM tomorrow. . Support from donors like you is the reason we are able to plan and produce a show on the scale The Fashion Show at Iowa State is known for. FundISU donations account for one-third of our production costs.
With that being said, the $2,400 we have the goal of raising in the next 24-hours could help pay for the set, fund special events and assist with bringing our guest designer. This year, students are posting pictures saying #whyTFS to show why they love The Fashion Show and support the FundISU campaign!

We are so thankful to see the support our FundISU campaign has gotten so far! Please keep sharing it with your friends and family, as every dollar makes a difference. Our goal this year as a class is to receive contributions from 500 donors — resulting in a bowling party for all members on campus during the week!
We are delighted to share the theme for The Fashion Show 2023: The Suite Escape. Taking place in the retro escapism aesthetic of the 80's, our Art Directors crafted an elevated, modern approach to destination/luxury hotels. This theme was developed through student creation and collaboration. Inspired by the combined aesthetics of the Beverly Hills Hotel and The Grand Budapest Hotel, we hope to evoke feelings of nostalgia and immersivity. We are also thrilled to highlight the history of The Fashion Show through this year's theme with an alternate name: Suite '82. This name will be used to showcase where The Fashion Show all started in 1982. Multiple director teams united to develop The Suite Escape from its initial mood board concept into a focused vision that will be represented throughout all of The Fashion Show 2023’s materials and content. The TFS team is excited to embody this theme and put on a production that highlights the organization's past and inspires our next generation of talent.
