Who We Are
The Iowa State Boxing Club is more than just a place to throw punches; it’s a thriving community where students from all walks of life come together to train, grow, and support one another. As a USA Boxing registered club with SafeSport certified coaches, we welcome over 200 members each semester, offering both recreational and competitive opportunities that cater to a diverse range of goals. Whether a student is looking to compete on a national stage or simply wants to get fit and make friends, our club provides the resources and environment they need to succeed.
What We Do
Our club structures practices to meet the needs of all members, from those who are new to the sport to those preparing for high-level competition. We train dedicated athletes for prestigious events like Golden Gloves and collegiate tournaments organized by the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) and the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association (USIBA). Our competitive program includes sparring sessions with other gyms, participating in local Midwest events, and taking part in regional and state qualifiers, all leading up to national tournaments. Beyond training, we create opportunities for students to bond through group activities, keeping our community tight-knit and supportive.
Why We Care
Boxing is often misunderstood, but at Iowa State, we’re committed to breaking down the negative stereotypes associated with the sport. We believe in fostering a safe, inclusive environment where students can challenge themselves physically, build lifelong friendships, and find a sense of belonging. Our club is a home away from home, where members are encouraged to excel not just in the ring, but in the classroom as well. We emphasize the importance of time management and goal setting, helping students balance their academic responsibilities with their passion for boxing.
Our Impact
In addition to physical training, we offer leadership opportunities that help our members develop skills they’ll use long after graduation. By stepping outside of their comfort zones, students gain confidence, learn to work as part of a team, and become more well-rounded individuals. Our club isn’t just about boxing; it’s about shaping the leaders of tomorrow. We also host annual home shows to promote our club and contribute to the local boxing community, providing opportunities for boxers to compete and for volunteers to support others. These events are a cornerstone of our mission to give back and grow the sport of boxing.
