Our Story
The Iowa State Women's Basketball Club has a goal of providing a welcoming, friendly, challenging, and competitive environment for female athletes to continue playing the sport we love. We play competitively against other universities, which sets us apart from other opportunities to play on campus like intramurals. In previous years, we have traveled to tournaments in the fall and spring semesters whenever we got the chance.
We are a part of a national league for the first time in the club's history, the NCBBA-W! In this format, we have a conference schedule of games against six other universities throughout the fall and spring semesters. Playing at a higher level leads to new costs we didn't have previously, including new jerseys, league dues, safety fees, competition costs, etc. We are hoping to raise enough money for us to have a successful season and win the playoff, regional, and national tournaments! We are responsible for fundraising for all the funds necessary to play.
We have the skill, determination, and effort we need to win. We just need financial support to pave the way.
The culture of this team is uplifting, fun, and we are constantly trying to make each other better. Half of our team is new this year, so we are trying our best to become a team as quickly as possible so we can do well this season and reach our shared goal: Nationals!
Thank you to anyone and everyone who is able to help us out and support our growth and our journey!
Season Highlights
2024-2025:
So far, we have only been practicing. Approaching our first conference game of the season in December, we have been running drills, competing, and learning to have fun as a team. This month, we are going to start drawing up plays and doing some conditioning so we can start the season off right with a win. We are unranked in the nation at this point in time because we are new to the league, but we hope to change that very quickly and end the season as #1 in the country.
2023-2024:
We placed 2nd in the NIRSA Region V Tournament at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We lost 56 - 46 in a physical championship game against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Mo McDermott and Miranda Peters were announced as part of the All-Tournament team, with Miranda being named MVP.
2022-2023:
We placed 2nd in the NIRSA Regional Tournament at the University of Missouri. We lost 55 - 49 in a nail-biter championship game against the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We ended the tournament with a 3-1 record and our post player, Miranda Peters, received special recognition.
