Who We Are
The Agronomy Club at Iowa State is a professional club that allows students to connect with their peers, Iowa State faculty, and industry professionals. We are a diverse group as we cover several states and countries and allow any major to join. We currently have about 40 members, advised by Dr. Mindy DeVries and Dr. Marshall McDaniel. It is important to us that we advocate for the next generation of agronomists, so we are so excited to welcome anyone who is interested. Our club holds several different activities throughout the year. During the fall, we have meetings where industry professionals speak with our members to give them an inside look and future employment opportunities. To educate and help our surrounding communities, we participate in STEM night at elementary schools and clean the ditch along Highway 30. The Agronomy Club continues to work hard to grow as a club to spread awareness for the agricultural community. We thank our sponsors, communities, and families for your continued support and belief in us.
Why We Are Fundraising
The Agronomy Club is asking for your support to help grow our club's fund. Our club is dedicated to making the world better, one agronomist at a time. However, this cannot be done without your help. It is crucial to have significant funds to continue growing and making a stronger club. By sponsoring our club, we will have more opportunities to attend more professional conferences, better displays for STEM nights, and more materials for interactive learning activities. With your help, we will have the potential to grow our club and create new learning opportunities for our members.
Meetings
The Agronomy Club meets every other week to listen to guest speakers, discuss upcoming events, and socialize with club members. We have an amazing executive team with great relationships with several professionals from the industry. The meetings begin with a social time and dinner together provided by the club. Then our guest speaker gives a presentation on their personal career journey, business, and potential career opportunities. We ask our speakers to touch on these three items as they correlate to our members' needs. The main goal behind having guest speakers from the industry is to increase our members' professional networks, provide them with opportunities, and remind them their lives are not a straight path. Our advisors often tell us to keep our options open and to try new things. During our business portion of the meeting, we give officer reports and updates about projects and rally volunteers for upcoming events. In some meetings, we like to change it by playing fun games like trivia or Pictionary related to agronomy. This allows our members to feel more comfortable with each other and hopefully creates a community for them. Our favorite activities as a club are when we can have hands-on experiences. In the future, we hope to have more learning experiences that are hands-on.
Outreach & Community Involvement
The Agronomy Club is not just a campus activity, we find it extremely important to reach out to the surrounding community to lend a helping hand. At least once a year, we participate in STEM night at a surrounding school to educate students on what agronomy is about. In the past years we have done a simple activity of "mud cups" to represent the different soil layers. This year, we are bringing live plants to show to the students. We hope to bring more detailed displays to better represent agronomy to potential future agronomists. Another way we reach the community is by cleaning up a two-mile stretch along Highway 30 outside of Ames. As agronomists we know the importance of healthy soil, so it is important to us that we do our part to keep Ames clean. Our members have fun while doing this activity, as there is never a dull moment while cleaning ditches! With your continued support we can better reach out to our community.
Thank You
The Agronomy Club at Iowa State is appreciative of your never-ending support. Without your generosity, our opportunities would be limited, and we would not be able to achieve our full potential as agronomists. We thank you for your unwavering faith in us as the next generation of agronomists and for allowing us to chase our dreams!
