Our Crowdfunding Groups
SunRun is an annual event put on by PrISUm Solar Car dedicated to educating local communities about the opportunities that are present through higher education by showing people how we are changing the paradigm of transportation. In past years we have conducted a week-long event travelling to approximately 15 events. This year we set our sights higher and are embarking on a three week event, travelling through all 99 counties in the state of Iowa and participating in more than 40 events!
SunRun will be taking place from June 2nd to June 24th, we will be travelling through all 99 counties in Iowa. Some of our major events are the following: Vintage Car Show - Mason City, My Waterloo Days - Waterloo, Lake Okoboji (Arnolds Park) - Arnolds Park, Ice Cream Days - Le Mars, Press conference with the Governor - Des Moines, Solar Car on the Square - Marshalltown, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series race - Newton. During SunRun 2016 PrISUm was able to reach over 17,000 individuals on a one-week trip. We've never done anything on the scale of SunRun 2017 but we're approximating we'll reach 40,000 people across all 99 counties. Throughout the entire trip, the goal is to get people excited about STEM and renewable energy. Sunrun provides team members with a great opportunity to share their passion for sustainable transportation and inspire the next generation of bright young minds.
Because we want to show the world that Iowa State University is where innovation happens, we will be taking Penumbra to the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge during the fall of 2017. We will be competing against international teams in a cross-continental race from the north coast of Australia to the south coast. Your donations will help us send our crew to Australia and bring back the win!
Team PrISUm is a multidisciplinary student organization at Iowa State University that has been designing, building, and racing solar-powered vehicles for 28 years. Since 1989, students from different colleges and majors have come together to build award-winning solar cars and spread a passion for STEM and sustainable transportation.

Your donation of $10 will support the purchasing of camping equipment for the race crew to sleep in the Outback
Your donation of $25 supports the shipment of 1/2 pounds of Penumbra to Australia
Your donation of $50 supports the purchase of a visa for crew member to legally enter Australia
Your donation of $75 supports the purchase of a day's worth of food for the race crew
Your donation of $100 supports the cost of gas for the chase caravan for a day
