Robotics Club 2021 Update

April 06, 2021

Dear 2020 Robotics Club Donors,

Thank you so much for your support over the past year! Although we were unable to attend competitions, we were able to safely continue working on our projects and move into a new facility. Robotics Club is now housed in the Student Innovation Center on campus, where we share a space with other engineering clubs. The Exoskeleton Suit team is continuing to test and refine their design, working with new sensors and CAD modeling. In place of traveling to a competition, Combat Robotics is holding a miniature, 3D-printed robot competition between team members on campus. The Autonomous Snowplow team has also been revamped—they’re currently updating and repairing the previous design.

With the previous success of our fundraising campaign, we’re excited for the new year! Our FundISU page will be live on FundISU from April 5th to May 5th. We hope to spread the word about robotics at Iowa State as much as possible in a short time, and we would love to have your continued help! We appreciate every donation and social media share as it will assist our continuously growing club and provide us with the support we need!

Final Days Fundraising Update

February 27, 2020

We’re entering our final couple of days for FundISU! Thank you so much to all of our donors so far, and anyone who’s shared our campaign. All of our teams are still hard at work—Combat Robotics even has a final 3D model of their bot ready to go. We would love to reach our goal before our campaign ends at 9 am on Saturday, but we need your help. Please continue to share our page on social media!

Final Week Fundraising Update

February 24, 2020

Hello again FundISU Donors! We are beginning our final week of fundraising for this winter. We’re currently 30% of the way to our goal; we want to thank everyone who’s donated and shared our page so far! We greatly appreciate all of the help. Some quick project updates: ExoSuit’s electrical subteam is reconfiguring some sensors for testing, while mechanical prepares to secure them to their frame. They remain well on their way to completing their project this season. Combat Robotics’ frame team is finishing up some design changes to reduce weight, and the drive team met to perform motor speed calculations and discuss options for securing the motors to a pulley system. They plan to begin manufacturing set-in-stone parts of the robot in the coming weeks. Both teams individually met this weekend to review 3D models, safety training requirements, and machinery locations before manufacturing this week. Since our FundISU campaign has only a few days remaining, we’re also working hard for the last push towards our fundraising goal! Please share with family and friends to help us reach $1500!

First Week Fundraising Update

February 10, 2020

Hello FundISU Donors! We want to thank everyone who’s donated so far—we are almost a quarter of the way towards our goal already! FundISU donations help us to complete our projects, so we can compete with other students from around the country and learn along the way. Each team is hard at work on their respective tasks; Hang Out and Learn had their first meet-up, ExoSuit is integrating and testing some new sensors, and Combat Robotics is beginning to manufacture their bot. With 19 days remaining, members are also working hard to spread the word about our FundISU. We’d love your assistance by continuing to share and strive towards our most successful year at ISU yet!
