Emmalee Jacobs Memorial

We were all reminded how precious life is during finals week last December.  On December 14, 2015, Iowa State Freshman, Emmalee Jacobs’ life was taken as the result of a hit-and-run while crossing Lincoln Way on her way to her first final exam as a college student. Emmalee was a talented student in the College of Business with the aspiration of pursuing a major in Supply Chain Management. Emmalee had a kind heart and loved being on Iowa State’s campus, especially in the fall. She was very excited to see where her adventure at Iowa State would take her in years to come. In honor and remembrance of Emmalee’s vast potential, the students of the Collegiate Women in Business student organization at Iowa State  welcome the donation of funds to create a scholarship that will benefit aspiring female business students like Emmalee who will pursue a future in business.

Honoring Emmalee's Life and Memory

Emmalee's friends and classmates, and simply the many inspired by her, wish to honor her by establishing a scholarship in her name. Together, through this campaign and with your generous help, we aim to create an opportunity for young women pursuing their higher education at the College of Business at Iowa State University. Your donation will help support Emmalee's legacy at Iowa State and will provide prospective Iowa State students with the opportunity to achieve their dreams and reach their full potential through higher education. Any donation, large or small, will greatly impact the lives of students attending Iowa State. We hope you consider donating.

By achieving the minimum goal of this campaign through your generous donations, the College of Business will introduce a permanent annual scholarship in Emmalee's memory.

About Collegiate Women in Business / Young Women in Business:

In 2014, three College of Business student leaders, Sadie Hayes, Sara Brandenburg, and Sarah Olson, joined together to form Collegiate Women in Business (CWIB).  CWIB is a student organization that provides female business students with a professional network.  The organization discusses what it means to be a woman in business today and focuses on the development and mentorship of its members.

The founders had a clear vision for the group and created a strong excitement for this organization right away. The first meeting was held in February 2014 with over 60 interested members.  Since then, this group has grown to well over 100 members and has expanded their initiatives to include: weekly meetings with industry professionals, on-site company visits, a CWIB mentorship program, a high school mentorship program, a CWIB Business Learning Community, assistance with two annual Young Women in Business (YWIB) conferences, and a professional development workshop for all female students attending the College of Business. The young women in this organization continue to inspire, empower, and advance women pursuing a career in business.

As stated above, a large project that CWIB takes on each year is providing assistance for the Young Women in Business (YWIB) program.  This program consists of annual fall and spring conferences open to young women in high school, as well as, their parents, educators, and counselors.  The main objectives of the program are to inform attendees about the rewarding business careers that are available for young women and to empower young women to pursue their interests in business. It is our belief that a lack of awareness has led to a significant and concerning underrepresentation of women across all business majors. This, of course, translates to an underrepresentation of women in the industry as well.  The students of CWIB are inspired to help some of these high school conference participants who will be following in Emmalee’s footsteps by attending Iowa State and pursuing their dreams in business!
