Combat Robotics Team Attends RoboBrawl Competition

April 11, 2024

Good afternoon!

The Club is happy to share that the Combat Robotics Team attended Robobrawl last weekend with their 30-pound robot called the Corn Cobbler, and it went well! We ended with a 3-2 record and placed 7th out of 21 entries after being given some tough matchups early on.

Our losses were only to the eventual runner-up and the most expensive robot entered, yet we fared decently well against both, only suffering minor damage to our robot. Two out of three of our wins were by decisive knockouts with us dismantling one of our opponents in the first minute of the match. With many things learned over the weekend, we plan to do a complete redesign of our robot to compete in next year's competition.

The Robotics Club Fundraiser has begun!

March 29, 2024

Hello!

We are very excited to announce that the Robotics Club at Iowa State University’s annual fundraiser has been launched!

The Robotics Club at Iowa State University is made up of students who want to learn more about technology, engineering, and robotics and gain hands on experiences. The club has three main teams that each build a different robot. Each team competes at various competitions throughout the year and works to improve their designs for the next year.

The three teams include a Combat Robotics team, which is similar to the TV show Battle Bots. The team creates a 30-pound robot and enters competitions where the goal is to try and dismantle the opposing robot while protecting your own. Another team is the Exo-Skeleton team, which is creating a suit that someone would wear with motors to allow them to lift heavier objects than they normally would. Our third team is the Autonomous Snowplow team. They design a large-scale plowing robot that uses sensors to avoid obstacles in their competition.

Each of these projects requires time and resources to complete and be ready for competition. In the end, the time we invested is always worth it, but we could use your help to acquire the resources we need, such as parts, tools, and money for competition travel. Any donation, no matter the size, is appreciated and will help us continue to grow the club and provide more opportunities to students interested in robotics.
