Week Two: RESILIENCE

January 31, 2018

It has been an exciting few weeks launching our annual crowdfunding campaign through FundISU and solidifying more details for the show!  This week, we have updates on the show’s theme, model practices, our DJ, and additional fundraisers!

Theme:

This year, The Fashion Show 2018 presents: RESILIENCE, a representation of minimalistic modern concepts and organic greenhouse inspired elements.  Our theme began through a student mood board titled “Deep Rooted” which symbolized new beginnings through nature’s neutral green palette and a sense of renewal.  As we continue to communicate with our contacts at Patagonia, we are reminded of their challenges to overcome the impact of recent natural disasters in the Los Angeles area.  Students were adamant about honoring Patagonia’s ability to face adversity during this time through the show’s title.  #VenturaStrong

Model Practices:

Even though it is only the end of January, our models are already hard at work preparing for this year’s show!  They had their very first practice this past Sunday, January 28th.  The models have one of the most important jobs in the show, and we are excited to see the unique choreography our Modeling Directors develop.  Models, directors, and committee members will be busy this semester with over eight practices, garment photos, and garment fit nights.

DJ:

Our Tech Directors are excited to announce the return of Nicholas Hadfield as our DJ for this year’s show!  Nick is a graduate of Iowa State University and the Berklee School of Music.  He now resides in Los Angeles apprenticing under producer, Eric Rosse.  Recently, he has worked on albums with Pablo Alboran, Jackie Evancho, and Idina Menzel.  Nick will be composing original music for RESILIENCE and The Fashion Show 2018!

Fundraising:

Fundraising efforts for The Fashion Show 2018 do not stop with the FundISU campaign.  Tonight, our committees are taking over the concession stands at the Iowa State Men’s Basketball game against West Virginia!  We also have two local food fundraisers scheduled in Ames for the following dates:

Blaze Pizza:  February 21, 2018, 8:00 - 11:00 p.m.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers:  March 6, 2018, 5:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Week One: Guest Designer 2018 = PATAGONIA

January 24, 2018

After the first week of our FundISU campaign, we would like to thank all of our donors for contributing to The Fashion Show 2018!  We appreciate your continued support and are excited to meet our goal of $25,000 in the next three weeks!

As part of The Fashion Show 2018, we are honored to announce Patagonia as our Guest Company/Designer for this year!  Patagonia is a high-performance outerwear manufacturer with a mission to protect and preserve the environment while creating the best possible product.  Representatives from the product development and design department will present 30 looks during our runway show and speak to students about their company culture and supply chain.  Partnering with such a unique company offers the opportunity to connect with the entire Iowa State student body and the reaction so far has been inspiring.  Many of our committees are already working to incorporate Patagonia’s values into events surrounding The Fashion Show.  Patagonia’s mission, sustainability platform, and activist efforts resonate with students and we look forward to spreading their message during their visit in April.
