Final Project Update

April 29, 2018

The team is excited to announce the completion of our Capstone Project.  It was not possible without your help.  The team is also excited to be able to pass on over $1500 to the next outreach project!

The final design came in at 42 pounds, 8 pounds under the goal set at the beginning of the semester.  The only way we could have accomplished this was by sourcing aluminum parts instead of steel and wood.  The aluminum was significantly more expensive than the heavier materials and was made possible by the donations made to the FUNDISU page.

The team also purchased high end, fixed and swivel casters.  With these casters we were able to achieve a rolling resistance, while fully loaded at 100 pounds, of only 3.5 pounds. This achievement will greatly ease our client’s delivery process.

With the additional funds from our donors we were able to provide a clean and professional look for our client. Having the ability to source diamond plate for the sides and top tray, gave the cart a very industrial look while providing his customers a sense of a high quality service. In addition we were able to make last minute improvements such as spraying a rubberized liner within the top tray and main compartment.  This greatly improves the longevity of these surfaces that will see above average wear.

Again the team wants to thank everyone for the help in completing this project. We could not have provided such a high quality and customized product for our client without you!

Thank you,

Final Design and Initial Fabrication 4/10

April 10, 2018

Hello everyone,

We have officially reached our fundraising goal! We especially want to thank everyone who donated to help us reach this goal. Our team is incredibly grateful for your support.

To date, the team has finalized the cart design and is in the beginning stages of manufacturing. Almost all of the materials have been ordered and shipped so the team is eager to start fabricating. The funds raised have helped greatly by allowing us to order specialized parts, such as telescoping aluminum tubing and 3D printed handles. These elements make the cart unique to our client’s needs and enables them to customize the cart to work in a variety of environments.

We are very excited to turn this concept into a reality. We look forward to keeping you updated on the client’s reaction!

Thank you,

ME 415 Team

Below is the finalized 3D model of the cart.

CAD Work Update 03/22

March 22, 2018

Thank you all for your support of this project, our team is very grateful for all your donations.

This week the team is finalizing the 3-D models using a program called SOLIDWORKS. This process gives us the ability to create and render models for parts we design. From the 3-D models we are then able to create 2-D drawings of each assembly and sub-assembly.

Within these drawings we include model and engineering specifications like dimensions, material selection, surface finishes, and weld parameters. These documents will then be given to our shop technicians to begin welding the frame this coming week.

Additional information regarding SOLIDWORKS can be found on their website: https://www.solidworks.com.

Best Regards,
